“Isole e Olena” released its first Chardonnay in 1987, following the grafting of selected French clones onto vines that were already growing successfully on the estate.
The vineyards for this wine are situated on the north-eastern side of the “Isole e Olena” estate, surrounded by woodland, at an altitude of 350–450 metres. The soil here consists of a mixture of limestone, marl and clay.
The Chardonnay grapes are fermented in small barrels, around a quarter of which are new, and aged with prolonged contact on the lees. The wine is produced with minimal intervention.
There are not many great Chardonnays from Italy. This is one of the three.
Aromas: bergamot, vanilla, pineapple, toffee.
Palate: superb balance, a hint of salinity, distinct fruit notes, a creamy finish.
Around 5,000 bottles are produced annuall
